A cage is your parrot’s home base: a place to eat, rest and feel secure. A good setup also makes cleaning, observation and supervised time outside the cage easier. Choose the layout for the species and the individual bird rather than copying a photo of a decorative cage.
Plan the space before the accessories
Make sure the bird can move comfortably, turn and extend its wings without striking bars or furnishings. Check bar spacing and door latches for your species. Leave clear routes between food, water and resting places. Place the cage where your bird can take part in household life without being exposed to drafts, cooking fumes or constant disturbance.
- Several secure perches of appropriate sizes and textures.
- Food and water dishes that are easy to reach and clean.
- Room for movement instead of filling every gap with toys.
- A predictable, quiet place for uninterrupted rest.
Build in change without losing stability
Rotate a few safe toys and foraging activities while keeping the main feeding and resting areas familiar. Inspect ropes, clips and toys for damage. The right enrichment depends on how your bird plays; see our play and enrichment ideas for a separate activity area.
Watch how your bird uses the setup
A layout can look attractive and still be hard for one bird to navigate. Observe preferred perches, spilled food and spots the bird avoids, then adjust one element at a time. Browse the Care Guides hub for related daily-care topics.
