Lovebirds are small parrots, not low-effort pets. An individual bird needs a secure home, an appropriate diet, activities to explore and a predictable way to interact with the people who care for it.
Start with safety and space
Choose cage dimensions and bar spacing suitable for a small bird. Provide reachable perches, clean dishes and room to move without crowding the cage with toys. Supervise time outside the cage and check doors, windows and plants in the room first.
Learn the bird’s preferences
Offer simple foraging and observe which activities invite interest. Some birds enjoy close interaction; others need more distance at first. Reward a voluntary approach and avoid forcing contact. The behavior guide helps you watch the whole picture.
